The U.S. Postal Service announced another increase in postage, set to take effect July 12, 2026.
Mailing Services (Effective July 12, 2026)
- First-Class Forever Stamp (1 oz): Increased to 82 cents (up from 78 cents).
- Metered Letters (1 oz): Increased to 78 cents (up from 74 cents).
- Domestic Postcards: Increased to 65 cents (up from 61 cents).
- International Letters (1 oz) & Postcards: Increased to $1.75 (up from $1.70).
- Additional Ounce: Remained at 29 cents.
Why Is Postage Going Up?
The USPS has cited rising operational costs and ongoing financial pressures as the driving force behind the increase. As a self-funded organization that receives no taxpayer dollars, the Postal Service relies entirely on postage and product sales to keep operations running. These rate adjustments are part of their effort to maintain reliable mail delivery to every address in the country.
What Does This Mean for You?
If your business relies on direct mail, invoices, or any other physical mailings, now is a great time to review your mailing strategy. A few things to consider:
- Stock up on Forever Stamps before July 12 to lock in the current 78-cent rate
- Review your mailing volumes and budget for the increased costs
- Consider digital alternatives where possible to help offset the impact
